Personality: Loud and out going with a caring sweet side to him. Comical at most times, but can be serious if the situation was bad enough. He hates being called weak or a dog (even though he has some characteristics of one). He can have a short temper and always looks for a challenge to overcome. He hates running away from fights. Sometimes he can have a bit of a self-esteem problem, and put very little faith in himself. Usually his friends or sister will help him with that problem. He’s very faithful to his friends and family and would even risk his life for loved ones. There’s also a small rivalry between him and Seto Kaiba, in which Kaiba always one-ups him. He also has the bad habit of cursing when angry…but who doesn’t have that problem now-a-days?

Background: Jounouchi's parents were divorced when he and his sister, Shizuka, were children. His Father took custody of him, while his sister went to live with their mother. His father was a drunk, and rumor has it that Jounouchi was beaten but it was never confirmed. He may also be half American or European from one of his parents but that has also yet to be confirmed. (It would explain the blonde hair) Before meeting his friend, Yugi, Jounouchi was part of a gang called the Crashers who started fights, and caused problems in Domino City. He eventually left the Crashers who eventually found him again and beat him within an inch of his life (he survived thanks to Yami Yugi’s quick thinking and creepy games)
Once he became friends with Yugi, he learned how to play Duel Monsters, and won second place in the Duelist Kingdom Tournament, even though he was a novice. Yugi gave him the 1 million dollars that was part of the Grand Prize so Jou could pay for his little sister’s eye surgery. Jounouchi also received the Red Eyes Black Dragon card for defeating Dinosaur Riyuzaki.
During the Battle City tournament Jounouchi learned the Duel Disk system and lost his Red Eyes to one of Malik’s Gurus. Yugi won it back for him, but Jou declined to offer, saying that he wanted to win it back from Yugi himself, to prove that he was worthy of the Red Eyes. Eventually Malik used the Millennium Rod to take control over Jounouchi’s mind and duel Yugi. The loser of this duel would end up sinking into the ocean and to a watery grave. Jounouchi eventually broke free of Malik’s mind control at the last minute. Before he could sink into the ocean he got to key to Yugi’s chain and unlocked him from the giant anchor dragging the both of them to the bottom of the ocean, but it didn’t work for him. Eventually his sister saved him, finally using her eyes for the first time in a long time.
During the Battle Tower arch, Jounouchi dueled Lishido and Yami no Malik. Jou successfully won the battle between Lishido, but lost the duel with Yami no Malik. Jounouchi was put into a coma from the battle because he could feel the pain that his monsters could feel. After a few duels and much angst, Jou regained consciousness to go help his friend Yugi when he was dueling Yami no Malik.

And pretty much after that arch, Jou really isn’t that important anymore (Except for the whole sword/dragon thing during Doma... umm… *sweatdrop*). Kinda sad. T.T And that might have been too much background info. ^^;
